Name the Crab!

Martha Stewart has two new kittens. She already named one and is having her fans name the other one.
I just got this little critter on Saturday and have not named him yet. He's really tiny. I would love to buy a tiny tuppermaid container to bring him to my most boring classes and liven up the atmosphere. I did that with my big crab George and my Spanish teacher really freaked out (I absolutely loved it).
Rather than name him myself, I am going to be lazy and turn to anyone who reads this for their best name suggestions. I don't know if it's a girl or a guy crab, so I'm going for a name that would work either way . . . . post your suggestions. . . .

I came across your blog surfing, your pics are really interesting. My husband and I think you should name the crab C.B. or Old Bay. The midwest landscape you shoot make my husband and I remember our trip to Mt Rushmore with such fondness. Keep up the great work!!!!

Hi Lauren!!!! I just got your first email and started looking at your blog. I've only seen the first picture, but think it is very cool. Ialso think that that crab's shell looks like a strawberry, so that's my suggestion-Strawberry. Toodles!

My hermit crabs always died really fast :-( I was a heart broken kid. Why do they die so quick?

I'm not a crab expert per say, but your crabs might have suffocated to death. Land crabs breathe through modified gills. Because of this, the crab's environment MUST be very humid. If the environment is not humid enough, the crab will die of suffocation, like a human would die of dehydration. Crab death due to suffocation is common because people often aren't aware of this important detail. Sad, huh? If you ever decide to adopt a hermit crab again, monitor the humidity of his (or her) environment carefully. May your previous crabs rest in a very humid peace! :)
