don't you think that everybody's happy when things are going well?
the other side it's more difficult but there are people in this world who can achieve that.
Those are really happy people. those who smile when they don't have reasons to smile. those who think that just for being alive you should smile.
once, i heard a story that happened in senegal. my friend was given to eat gazelle to eat. she could eat no more. but when she refused more food, all the people (who ate meat once a year or less!!) said she had to eat that meat because it was a present.
she asked the interpreter to translate this single sentence: "it's a very tasty food, but i cannot eat any more. i'm full". the interpreter said: - "i cannot translate the word tasty. they don't have that word in their language. it's food. food is necesary. it hasn't to be tasty or disgusting. it's food: you eat it, you'll be alive one more day"
and they were happy because they were alive. and they smile. those are heroes.
i'm not saying that we have to be happy all the time and it's not a merit to be happy when we live in our countries, with hospitals, schools, fod, money, malls, tv, radio,...
i mean that we have to smile when things are bad. we just have to fight for better things. but we have to fight as we smile.
@senol j: That makes me feel even more shallow and petty than even before. That was quite a meaningful story you shared - I appreciate your putting things into perspective for me. It helps.
